Biography

From its wide open spaces to its vivid colors, the Big Island is a nature photographer’s dream.  Born and raised in North Kohala, I want to share more than the standard postcard version of Hawaii.  As a result, the images I record reflect a more nuanced aesthetic- one that conveys that rare sensation of witnessing a moment when form and light create visual music.  These are images to be viewed again and again.  They will open your eyes to a hidden Hawaii, and remind you of why it’s called paradise.  And perhaps, these subtle portraits of a unique island will inspire a heightened appreciation for open spaces and the solace they afford.  All images are avilable in various sizes, on paper or stretched canvas.  See more images at: maliawelch.com
