Buck and Jankowski
Biography
Jan Jankowski (Theodore Janson) and his wife, Rebecca Buck Jankowski have been painting together "since forever". They studied in Provincetown, Massachusetts at the Cape School of Art under the artistic guidance of Henry Hensche. Hensche introduced his students to theories and practices of "full color painting", (color visualist) which involve capturing the elusive qualities of colors in interplay with light and shadow, aura and penumbra, aerial perspective and the passage of the sun. Other notable students of Hensche's lineage include Franz Kline, Rob Longley, Steve Perkins, Hilda Neily, Dave and Lisa Farrell, Camylle Przewodek, Lois Griffel, Lois Wilson, Joanette, Cedric, and Arthur Egeli, Bette Lawhon, Bill von der Heydt, Paul Lucchesi, Edward Giobbi, Sammy Barber, and Jamie Wyeth. Becki and Jan paint almost daily, out-of-doors, often using their car as an easel. They can be seen painting, pulled off the road, intently studying one of Kohala's many gorgeous vistas. Their work, so different yet complimentary, reflects a sense of "joie de vivre."
